POSTS: Read and Comment

 

The POSTS area is the home for all the writing happening locally and globally on Write About. Building a WRITE-READ-COMMENT routine with students is important for helping them positively contribute to your community and to the development of other student writers. 

 

 READ CLASSMATES' WRITING

• The Class tab will display all your students' Posts that have been published to the Class privacy layer (or beyond).

FIND SPECIFIC STUDENT WRITING USING CLASS GROUPS

• Set up Class Groups make it easy to find Drafts and Posts from a certain class period, project or other subset of students.
• The 'View by Author' filter will allow you to narrow writing down to a specific student in that Group. Students can also use this to find and read each others' Posts. 

 READ PEER WRITING FROM YOUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY

• The School tab is available for School members to quickly find and read writing from other classrooms in your building. 

 READ PEER WRITING FROM THE GLOBAL WRITE ABOUT COMMUNITY

• The Community tab displays published writing from students and teachers around the world who have chosen to publish to the Public. 

FOLLOW AUTHORS AND CLASSES TO CONNECT TO GLOBAL PEERS

• The Following tab displays Posts publicly published by any author a student has Followed
• Teachers can directly Follow an entire class you want your students to see writing from. All the public Posts from students in that class will display for your students. 

FIND AUTHORS AND CLASSES TO FOLLOW

• Students and Teachers can use the Follow button to Follow an Author when you read their Post:

 

• Students and Teachers can discover authors to Follow from their Class Page or individual Author Page
  • At the top of each post, click on the author's name or avatar to go to their Author Page.

• At the bottom of each Post, find a link to that students' Class Page

• Discover and Search the Classrooms Who Write Directory so you can Follow their class to connect your students!

WRITE A COMMENT

At the bottom of each Post, students and teachers can leave a Comment for the author. Comments should be Positive and Helpful and need to follow the Write About Community Guidelines. Teachers can moderate student comments before they display for their students. See detailed help for Controlling Student Permissions

• Comments (once approved if Moderation is turned on) will be visible to anyone who has permission to view the post based on it's privacy (Class, School, Public). 

• If teachers want to leave private feedback for the student, they should not use a Comment. They should use the Teacher Feedback area while viewing the Post.
