Use Content Filtering to best match your students with writing content that is developmentally appropriate.
Teachers can control what Ideas and Posts are displayed for students throughout the site as well as control what Groups students can view and join.
- Ideas are visual writing starters created by teachers.
- Posts are pieces of writing created by students and teachers.
- Groups are communities created by teachers.
These content areas are filtered by 3 general Grade Level bands: 1st-4th; 5th-8th; 9th-12th. Many pieces of content span more than one Grade Level band.
Use individualized permissions to scaffold your students' experience. Sample:

Some students may be ready for higher level writing and a wider range of topics. A 7th grade class, for example, may have some students who are ready to tackle open-ended issues categorized as 9th-12th, while a 5th grade class may have students who have more success interacting with the the 1st-4th content.
Assign viewable content by clicking the associated check boxes for the grade levels that should be displayed. This can be done individually by student or in bulk by using the ‘Select All’ feature at the bottom of each Grade Level band column.
Content on Write About follows our Community Guidelines for being K-12 appropriate. Abuse of this, while rare, is possible with thousands of student users each day. The Abuse reporting feature is used effectively by users to quickly have content removed and the corresponding teacher notified.
